Marks and Spencer closures: FULL list of every M&S store closure announced so far
The M&S store shut downs are component of the chain’s major transformation strategy, which will have 100 shops closed by 2022.
Sacha Berendji, retail, operations and property director at Marks & Spencer, stated: “We’re continuing to transform M&S with pace and as part of this we are making good progress with our plans to close over 100 stores – radically reshaping our store estate to become more relevant for our customers.”
The executive added:
“Proposing to close stores is never easy, for our colleagues, customers or the local community, but it is vital for the future of M&S. Where we have closed stores, we are continuing to see an encouraging number of customers choosing other nearby locations and shopping on M&S.com.”
Up to now 38 store places have been declared, 30 of which have by now closed. As of now 1,891 employees have been affected by the shut downs, with more coming.
M&S has gave their assurance that 80% of their workers have been moved to other roles. The major transformation strategy is a bid to yield one third of sales on the internet by 2022.
The 17 stores arranged to be shut down as part of the latest announcements are as follows:
- Junction One Antrim Outlet
- Luton Arndale
- Sutton Coldfield
- Weston Super-Mare
