Amazon Echo DOWN: Alexa ‘goes rogue’ in homes worldwide
Down Detector, the internet site that monitors failures of websites has attained a number of reports stating that the home-helper smart gadget ceased operation before 9am this day.
A few users even noted that the Echo, which in normal working condition reacts to the name “Alexa”, apparently has gone “rogue” and was all of a sudden turning itself off and disregarding voice instructions. A map providing an image of where the device is down internationally revealed it was mainly UK and European customers that are impacted.
However, some reports came up from the United States, even though with the time zone difference the majority of people were sleeping when the problems were first documented.
One user lamented on Down Detector: “MyAlexaa devices are intermittent this morning.”
While another one stated: “Anybody else’s Alexa ignoring them this morning? It played my local radio station after a while, but won’t do anything else. Just ignoring me. Won’t even turn off.”
And some even stated that Alexa seemed to have possessed its own mind: “Won’t turn up the heating, and is thinking long and hard about whether to turn lights on or off.”
A representative for Amazon explained to Daily Star Online that the issues were fixed a short period afterward.
A statement reported: “For a short period this morning we had an issue that impacted some Alexa customers’ ability to interact with the service. The Alexa service is now operating normally.”
